This painting didn't make it into the Cedarburg Plein Air Exhibition because I wasn't satisfied with it at the time. I painted it the last morning. The sun was playing hid n seek which means I had to depend on my poor memory skills to created the beautiful dappled light. The strong patterns of light and shadow is what initially drew me. I also enjoyed the challenge of the abstractness of the leaves.

It looks and feels exactly like the atmosphere that day, sunny yet about to become cloudy, then sunny. I really like that you concentrated your strong colors and light right around the focal area...it so helps with that sense of distance...I feel like I could walk right into this space, and around the corner of that building.
Everything about this painting is intriguing, Susan - the cool shadows and dappled sunlight. I love the way you did the trees and the building. Wonderful painting!
I'm with Janelle...love what you did with the trees. I think this is beautiful Susan. You & Karen must have had such a great time. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Dear Karen,
Thank you so much for your thought provoking comments and compliments. I feel really blessed to have met you, plein air painting. I think we are both growing which creates so much more energy and determination to deal with all the plein air craziness.
Once again, Congratulations on your Best of Show award at Cedarburg. I'm on such a high I feel like I won. Can't wait to hit the road again with you.
Hi Janelle,
Hello Kathleen,
You ladies really are encouraging. Summer greens intimidate me. I've decided to it one of my top priorities this year. It's such an abstract "thing" to paint. The values are so compressed, and the questions of cool or warm greens can be confusing.
