So great to get back to the Palette and Chisel and work with a model. Saturday there isn't a lunch break, which I prefer, so we can paint from 9-1:30 on one pose. Of course I was late (because I went with Karen and worked from 7-9 on a cold corner painting a street scene) but I still got to work on; simplify to big shapes, value, and then the time was up.

I wondered how you'd do now that your back home. easy; you're still very good with the portraits.
Hi Sam, I'm freeeeeezing but still plein air painting. The funny thing is that although I love landscapes more than cityscapes I have this strong urge to paint cityscapes. I think the things we were practising on the mountains could work very well with skyscrapers. I love painting in the studio, figures and still lifes but I gotta get outside too. The studio can just start to feel claustrophobic. best to you
Outstanding Susan. You and Karen are an inspiration. You are so right about the studio. I loved being outdoors in the snow. Okay enough about me, your work is great.
I'm sure it's nice to be home but what a great adventure you and Karen had! Thank you for sharing, your paintings are lovely even though you didn't intend to make finished paintings. I admire you for getting out there in all the elements. I didn't even notice the pock-marks and think of the memories you will always have when you look at that painting!
Joan
p.s. beautiful portrait too!
These are great values. You guys are so strong; you always get out in the cold. I wait for the sun!
Hi Joan, and Joan, and Pam,
Unfortunately living in Chicago if we waited for the sun we'd have maybe 4 months to plein air paint. I love Chicago, the foods great, people warm, clean for a city, but I am tired of pulling on snow pants, long underware, feet warmers, etc. just to paint for a few hours. okay, I'll stop complaining. Rumor has it that we're to hit 35 by the weekend and yes, we'll take advantage of the heatwave. I wonder if we'll see the sun...
Happy Painting!
Beautiful Spring like portrait Susan. I can feel the sitter's presence.
Reeeeeeeeally nice.
