I painted this around 9am. My point was to give a good peek of the shore. Plus the dunes and the water are my two favorite beach elements.
All my paintings done while traveling are small, 5x7 to 6x8. I'd like to work larger but I don't have the strength to carry more than a small backpack of gear. Sometimes I see something that I think I'd rather tackle larger but the hassel of carrying a large canvas just hasn't been worth it. Oh well, isn't there a saying, "good things come in small packages."

You're doing exactly what I'm trying to do- get at the huge sense of distance. I love the textural contrasts between what's near and what's far. It really works. I love the horizon line in this one too.
I agree, some of my best paintings are small. Small but mighty - or so I'd like to believe.
Your knife work in this painting and your last one is great! You've got lots of interesting texture around your focal point. It's beautiful!

Once again a great use of thick/thin paint to establish a center of interest. I just lover to linger over the dune grasses to sky distance. Nice.
