Yesterday I finally got to paint this area that I pass by daily but haven't found the time to stop and paint. My primary concern was to create a simple simple composition/design with my subject matter. But now I'm wondering if the simplicity made it too abstract. If so, I probably should consider painting in a more highly realistic manner and minimalize my loosy-goosy style. So, can you tell what it is I painted???

Well to me it looks like rocks in water. Did I win anything?
oh good, yes, you did guess correctly. You win,... the right to be right!
Ha! I want to win too!
No way, not too abstract. I think this is a fantastically beautiful painting...serene, leads me in...I don't even need 'the rest' (the bank of the river, etc.) of it. It's enough.
Hi Karen,
Oh good, so relieved. What inspired me is all those wonderful plein air watercolors of Sargent's. Somehow he make the ever so ordinary worth a second glance. Hopefully I'll be examining more compositions along this line.
Hi Susan,
Well when I read the comments, I too had guess correctly...although I didn't feel it was too hard. I think this painting is really beautiful. I wouldn't change a thing.
Thank you Kathleen.
I'm so happy to have visited your blog. Your paintings are wonderful. This one I especially enjoy. I thought it was rocks and possibly a turtle in a river. I love the colors in this piece too. I'm amazed at your talent.
I read rocks and water, some trees in the misty background, right away. I think any further detail would detract from its beauty.
I don't even care what it is, I love it!!! I think this might be my favorite of all time of yours. !!
