"David" - charcoal study

I've been trying to do a figure study in charcoal or pencil at least five times a week to improve my drawing and painting abilities. These studies are under three hours. (It's sort of like going to the gym to lift weights when I'd rather do something cardio) I am using casts from Michaelangelo and Greek sculptures. The contour studies in particular, show me where I need improvement. I'm trying not to use mass, which is how I prefer to draw, and limiting personal expression. My focus for these studies is accurate form and getting that more quickly.

Ah-Yes, the fine art of drawing. Drawing is the foundation and the most basic form of art. It teaches one how to see and to understand. It teaches one to recognize, imitate, and manipulate the nature of our world by paying attention to the visual elements of composition.
Realism isn't too difficult once you get the hang of paying attention to fine details as well as knowing the techniques.

I think the drawing looks great.

Tried to leave a comment but Blogger was having issues. So this might end up a double comment.

It's SO true--that's exactly how it feels to do charcoal drawings when you'd rather be dealing with luscious paint.

I've just tagged you in my today's post.

Hi Jala,

I'm getting more and more into these charcoal and pencil studies. I'm finding the experience really gratifying.

I'm not sure what "tagged" means?
