Plein Air in the Winter

We've had a few nice snow storms this month making plein air painting extraordinarily fun.  The world becomes quiet, making the whole experience more productive and personal.  Try tucking a hand-warmer in your hat and waistband.  It keeps the chill away a bit longer.

(painted March 2013, near the Grau Mill in Fullersburg Woods.  oil on linen 8"x10")

Hi Susan! I really have to hand it to artists who do plein aire in the middle of the winter... I'd never have the fortitude.

You captured the cold iciness of this scene perfectly... and it does look so calm and peaceful.

Beautiful grays! I remember going to the Old Grau Mill as a child.
