8"x8" oil "Poppies"
I've been working on small plein air oil sketches with the idea that maybe I could then takes those sketches and turn them into something in my studio. This is a studio piece, small again but actually inspired from some sketches of bluebells.

woww...beautiful!!!!
Lovely, Susan. Reminds me of that movie "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams where he is in heaven and running through a field of flowers that squish like oil paint.
I just love the way these poppies 'pop' and draw your eye into them. Really great!
Beautiful feeling of light in this!
Hello Jasy, Carol,Kathleen, and Kerri, Thanks so much for taking the time to look and comment. I feel like the "experimenting" is going in the right direction and it's nice to know others do to.
It's magnificent, somehow that darkish area right down in front 'makes' it for me.
thank you Karen - it's probably the bluebells tucked into the shade
Brilliant!!! Thank you for sharing.
This painting makes me smile every time I see the thumbnail. Love the orange/blue complement!
I love the strong colors in this!
Love this bright, warm color- what a happy feeling here! I like your little pochade box in the previous entry, too - and the fact that the weather is warm enough to not wear thermals!! Happy spring!!
Hello Joan, Sam, Pam, and Roxanne, I guess I must be responding to our lovely spring. I can't stop painting poppies. And it's great to run outside and paint without first stopping to put on layers and layers of winter clothes. Happy Spring Painting! Hope you're having as much fun as I am and that your weather is as nice.
This is so beautiful! How I'd love to come upon such a field! You make me feel like I'm already there...
Thank you Susan. I think we all need open space just to think and take a really good breath.
Love the blues at top and bottom, nicely done!
I love these 8x8 poppy landscapes that you've done! are they on stretched canvas or on board? They're beautiful! (dang I've GOT to get back outside!!)
Hi Roxanne, they are on stretched gallery-wrapped linen canvases so I do paint around on the sides. Thanks for stopping by again! S
