head study part 2

I woke early to paint on this head study before everyone woke in my house. I've been painting fast and furious for several different exhibitions. It's been really nice to slow down and search for all the subtle little passages. This morning I worked from a photo which I took of this model. It was really different going from life to working from a photo. Also, I used rags and soft sable brushes instead of a palette knife. I hope to get the model back to finish this piece.

Susan,
I like your use of rags and sable brushes. This portrait has a quiet, thoughtful presence enhanced by your handling of the paint. Really beautiful.

Moody and lovely... As I was reading I was wondering how you were painting it... do your models get up really early???
But it was a photo... VERY NICE.. I look forward to seeing it after the next phase.

Gorgeous!! I think it's all good that you're switching it up with your application & tools. It is different...but it's still yours.

The feedback has been very helpful. I really enjoyed the first part of the painting when I had the model but trying to finish from a photo was rather boring and difficult to see the subtle passages. I don't think I'll be able to finish it as well as I hoped without the model but that's okay too. There's always other opportunities.
