"The Green Bridge"

Painted this during the last bits of our beautiful fall weather. My daughter wrote (& published) a poem about this bridge which is in our town. I've included a few lines,

The Green Bridge isn't any ordinary bridge

It links us from the busy town to the gracious woods

It allows us to be bathed by the sunlight or calmed by the whispering wind

The bridge sways as the breeze whistles

No work, no insults come to mind

The feeling is like none other than love for the nature...

...of the Green Bridge.

"Passing on Grand"

This morning I painted a street scene with a few other plein air painters. I'm really loving this skinning format. I think it's because it gives me just a slice, a suggestion, of what's going on.

"Clear Answer"

This woman caught my eye because her gray hair was almost to her knees. As I was painting her it became apparent that here is a woman comfortable with herself.

I got into painting small veggies & fruit larger than life-size, during the winter. Their burst of viberant color brighten up the gray winter days and still gray spring. I think these bitty bites add a dash of color and life.

Off And Running

This young mother was watching her children walk off to school. Her outline caught my eye. I started to paint her using just line but quickly went to simple big shapes. She soon moved on to start her day. I resorted to memory and invention to finish this piece. I added a hat and changed her sweatshirt to a tank top. When I looked up I was alone. Time to get on with my day too.

A Taste of Provence

This woman is a vendor at one of my favorite farmers markets here in Chicago. Her flair for color and confident stance compelled me to create several small oil paintings.
It was a fun challenge to describe her through her body language.
